Two audiovisual documents are seriously undermining the credibility of the police version of events that caused the death of Bérenger Obame Ndoutoume, a trader at the market of Mont-Bouet. Those two documents are videos that are available on the Internet and present the testimonies of the father and mother of the victim, rendering the final moments of consciousness of their son and what he did tell them about what happened, and also talk about what was said by the police to the hospital services where they took the burnt victim. It is mind boggling!
The first thing that appears is that the Gabonese judicial services did not consider it useful to audition the victim immediately after the events, things that the parents could do as evidenced by the notes they have taken. There seems to have been an attempt to cover-up from the start.
The story is as follows: Sunday 1st November 2015, Bérenger went to the market early in the morning. He paid the first group of policemen from Libreville’s police headquarters, 1000 CFA francs (the racketeering rate charged to every trader in the market, given that there are hundreds of traders, you imagine the daily jackpot of these police officers). At around 1 pm, a second group of policemen showed up and asked him 2,000 francs. As he had not yet sold anything and did not have 2,000 francs, his merchandise was confiscated by the police. He would follow his goods to the central police station where an officer will say to him: "you Gabonese, you want to show that you're above the law", which means that the Gabonese people do not generously pay the bribe (read here that law = bribe).
Since Beranger would not yield, the agent said, "under these conditions, I will destroy your goods." This outside of any legal proceedings. This agent sent his colleague to get petrol and when he returned, he sprinkled the goods with the flammable liquid. It is at this point that to protect his merchandise, Beranger laid on top of it begging the police not to burn his livelihood. The policemen drizzled him with petrol and set fire upon him and his goods. He was burned from the neck down, only the head was not reached in the third degree. The testimony continues: "Dad, if I doused myself with petrol, I would have started with the head. Dad, the policemen burned me, it is the policemen who burned me! "
This testimony is formal and convincing: contrary to the public version by the Gabonese government, through its police, Bérenger Obame Ndoutoume never entered the central police station, carrying a can of petrol to sprinkle himself with and then lit himself on fire. This version is a crude and shameful lie! This blog so abounds in the same direction as the father of the victim who says bluntly that his son was murdered inside the police headquarters in Libreville.
This event occurred not in the open court of Libreville's central police station, but in an office. The father of the victim refuses to retrieve the body for burial if the true version of events that led to his death his not made public by the authorities. The father says that the truth must be restored first!
The father of Beranger Obame Ntoutoume said: "they murdered my son in a public institution. I cry, I cry; them, they laugh. When I cry, them, they laugh! He is a human after all. He is a man. He was to celebrate his 29th birthday on the 5th of January. I want the truth. No truth, no funeral. "
Dear readers, the combined stories of the father and mother of the victim leave us with the conviction that the version given by the authorities is a lie. The truth must be officially reinstated; and for that we must support this family in its approach and put pressure on the authorities to ensure that only the truth is restored!

Deux documents audio visuels viennent gravement entamer la crédibilité de la version policière des évènements ayant provoqué la mort de Bérenger Obame Ndoutoume, commerçant au marché de Mont-Bouët. Ceux deux documents sont des vidéos qui peuvent être consultées sur internet et qui recueillent les témoignages du père et de la mère de la victime qui donnent un rendu des derniers moments de conscience de leur fils et ce qu’il a pu leur dire à propos de cet évènement, et parlent aussi de ce qu’a dit la police aux services hospitaliers où ils déposèrent le corps brulés de la victime. C’est ahurissant !
La première chose qui nous parait curieuse est que les services judicaires gabonais n’aient pas jugé utile d’auditionner la victime immédiatement après les faits, choses que les parents ont pu faire comme l’atteste les notes qu’ils ont prises. Il y a comme une volonté d’étouffer l’affaire dès le début.
Le récit s’établit comme suit : Dimanche 1ier Novembre 2015, Bérenger se rendit au marché très tôt le matin. Il paya au premier groupe de policier du commissariat central de Libreville 1000 francs CFA (le tarif du racket exigé à chaque commerçant du marché, vu qu’il y ait des centaines de commerçants, vous imaginez le pactole quotidien de ces policiers). Vers 13 heures, un deuxième groupe de policiers se présente et lui demande 2000 francs. Comme il n’a encore rien vendu et qu’il n’a pas 2000 francs, sa marchandise est confisquée par ces policiers. Il va suivre sa marchandise au commissariat central où un agent va lui dire : « vous les Gabonais, vous voulez montrer que vous êtes au-dessus de la loi », ce qui veut dire que les Gabonais ne paie pas généreusement le bakchich (comprenez ici que loi=bakchich).
Puisque Béranger ne veut pas céder, l’agent lui dit : « dans ces conditions, moi je vais détruire ta marchandise ». Ceci hors de toute procédure judiciaire. Cet agent envoie son collègue chercher du pétrole et au retour de celui-ci, il aspergea la marchandise du liquide inflammable. C’est à ce moment-là que pour protéger sa marchandise, Béranger se coucha dessus en suppliant les policiers de ne pas bruler son moyen de subsistance. Les policiers l’ont arrosé de pétrole et mirent le feu sur lui et sur sa marchandise. Il fut brulé du cou aux pieds, seul la tête n’a pas été atteinte au troisième degré. Le témoignage continu : « Papa, si moi-même je m’étais versé le pétrole, j’aurais commencé par la tête. Papa, les policiers m’ont brulé, ce sont les policiers qui m’ont brulé ! »
Ce témoignage est formel et convainquant : contrairement à la version rendue publique par l’Etat Gabonais, par sa police, Bérenger Obame Ndoutoume ne s’est jamais introduit au commissariat central muni d’un bidon de pétrole pour ensuite s’en asperger et allumer lui-même le feu. Cette version est un grossier et honteux mensonge ! Ce blog abonde donc dans le même sens que le père de la victime qui affirme sans ambages que son fils ait été assassiné à l’intérieur du commissariat central de Libreville.
Cet évènement s’est produit non pas dans la cour du commissariat central de Libreville, mais dans un bureau. Le père de la victime refuse de récupérer le corps pour inhumation si la version véridique des évènements ayant conduit à sa mort n’est pas rendue publique par les autorités. Ce père affirme que la vérité doit être rétablie avant toute chose !
Le père de Bérenger Obame Ndoutoume dit ceci : « ils ont assassiné mon fils dans une institution publique. Je pleurs, je pleurs ; eux ils rient. Quand moi je pleurs, eux ils rient ! C’est quand même un humain. C’est un homme. Il devait fêter ses 29 ans le 5 janvier prochain. Je veux la vérité. Pas de vérité, pas d’obsèques ».
Chers lecteurs, les récits conjugués du père et de la mère de la victime nous laissent avec la conviction que la version donnée par les pouvoirs publics soit un mensonge. La vérité doit être rétablie officiellement ; et pour cela nous devons soutenir cette famille dans sa démarche et mettre la pression sur les autorités pour que seule la vérité soit rétablie !

This does not happen only to others
1 year that the body of our compatriot killed by the Bongo / PDG regime is at the morgue;
1 year that his parents and friends are waiting to mourn his disappearance;
1 year that all Gabonese supporters of change are waiting for accompany him with dignity to his final resting place;
1 year that the so-called Gabonese justice system has been procrastinating to find his killers
1 year that his mother has been suffering from knowing that her son is on ice at the morgue;
1 year that the moral and religious authorities of this country have remained strangely silent;
An unprecedented, unbelievable and inhuman fact, his child born after his assassination is growing up while the body of his father is stuck in a morgue.
Faced with this moral tragedy, we say: enough is enough!
So, from 20 November to 20 December, we invite all Gabonese who think that:
- This does not happen only to others;
- Each of us or of our family could have been in the place of Mboulou Beka or a member of their families;
- Each of us or a member of our family could end up like Mboulou Beka;
- Justice must be done;
- Beka Mboulou must be buried before 20 December;
Let us demand an end to this ordeal for the family of the deceased through active involvement in all activities defined in this campaign that runs from 20 November to 20 December 2015 until he is buried:

1 an que tous les Gabonais partisans du changement attendent pour l’accompagner dignement à sa dernière demeure;
1 an que la soi-disant justice gabonaise tergiverse pour retrouver ses assassins

1 an que les autorités morales et religieuses de ce pays sont restées étrangement silencieuses;
Fait inédit, invraisemblable et inhumain, son enfant né après son assassinat grandit avec le corps de son père bloqué dans une morgue.
Devant ce drame moral, nous disons : ça suffit comme ça !
Aussi, du 20 novembre au 20 décembre, nous invitons tous les Gabonais qui pensent que :
- Ça n’arrive pas qu’aux autres ;
- Que chacun de nous ou un membre de notre famille aurait pu se trouver à la place de Mboulou Beka ou un des membres de leurs familles;
- Que chacun de nous ou un membre de notre famille pourrait se retrouver à la place de Mboulou Beka;
- Justice doit être faite;
- Mboulou Beka doit être enterré avant le 20 décembre;
Exiger la fin de ce calvaire à la famille du défunt en s’impliquant activement dans toutes les activités définies dans cette campagne qui va du 20 novembre au 20 décembre 2015 ou jusqu’à ce qu’il soit enterré :

Le gouvernement gabonais acquiert un Gulfstream VIP G650ER

Le gouvernement du Gabon a acquis un nouveau jet d'affaires Gulfstream G650ER, qui devrait être utilisé par le gouvernement pour le transport de VIP.
L'avion a été acquis neuf chez Gulfstream aux États-Unis, et a été équipé pour satisfaire au rôle de transport de membres du gouvernement à partir de Septembre. Le 28 Septembre son enregistrement aux États-Unis a été annulé car l’avion a été envoyé vers le Gabon, en décollant des installations principales de Gulfstream à l'aéroport international de Savannah/Hilton Head en Géorgie, le 3 Octobre dernier, rapporte la publication Air Forces Daily.
L'avion est exploité à partir de la Base Aérienne de Libreville 01 / aéroport international Léon Mba. Il a récemment été utilisé pour transporter les délégués du Sommet de La Valette sur la Migration, via l'aéroport international de Malte-Luqa le 11 Novembre 2015.
Air Forces Daily rapporte que le gouvernement gabonais possède actuellement deux autres jets d'affaires, un Gulfstream IVSP de 17 ans appelé 'Nyanga' et un Falcon 900EX appelé 'Masuku III'.
Nota bene: un Gulfstream VIP G650ER coûte environ 66.5 million de dollars américains, soit 33,250 milliards de francs CFA ; et un cout additionnel d’une heure de vol à 10161 dollars, soit environ 5 million de francs CFA (les spécificités des prix peuvent être vérifiées sur le site suivant : http://www.privatefly.com/us/private-jets/longrange-jet-hire/Gulfstream-G650).

Dear parents,
I would certainly be awkward in my words, for I do not know the right and appropriate sentences to speak and express to you the sadness and sorrow that invaded me after having learned of the cruel and unacceptable grief that was imposed upon you. But please allow my modest person to come to you to present my deepest condolences and inform you of my solidarity and my feelings of revolt against what your family is going through.
It is not in the order of things to see one’s child go first, but I know that you have within you the strength, resources and courage to overcome this ordeal. Indeed, faced with the loss of your son, one would expect to see you destroyed, defeated, beaten; but in your testimonies, you appeared to us dignified, strong and determined to restore the integrity of the memory of your son and shed light on the circumstances of his death. For this posture, you have won the admiration of most Gabonese.
Some of us will wonder where you find the strength to move forward towards that goal. But I, with your permission, would suggest that this force, you to tap it from your culture.
The sage says: "education is the compass of life!", and the education you have taught your son has made him an independent being. In choosing to live by his trade, to earn his bread by his own sweat in an honest and decent way, your son decided to live against the grain of most of his contemporaries who unfortunately prefer dependence over dignity. His dream was certainly to live simply in providing for the needs of his folks in tranquility. But the reality of your testimonies is accessible to us. We understand your words and your determination; your intonation, in your verbal debit, your quiet posture, which transmit to us an extraordinary power of strength of conviction. Your testimonials are key documents of the evolution of Gabon. One that sees citizens like you, forcefully reject any idea of falsehood and lie, so that truth alone triumphs, whatever the consequences. The requirement for transparency applies to everyone.
Dear parents, I am speaking for many others when I assure you that we share your pain at this time of mourning and would like to let you know that we are with you with all our heart.

Je serais certainement maladroit dans mes mots, car je ne connais pas de phrases justes et appropriées pour m’adresser à vous et vous exprimer toute la tristesse et la peine qui m’ont envahi après avoir appris la nouvelle du cruel et inacceptable deuil qui vous a été imposé. Mais permettez à ma modeste personne de venir vous présenter mes condoléances les plus profondes et vous faire part de toute ma solidarité et de mon sentiment de révolte face à ce que vit votre famille.
Ce n'est pas dans l'ordre des choses de voir son enfant partir en premier, mais je sais que vous avez en vous la force, les ressources et le courage nécessaires pour surmonter cette épreuve. En effet, devant la perte de votre fils, on aurait pu s’attendre à vous voir anéantis, abattus, défaits; mais dans vos témoignages, vous nous êtes apparus dignes, forts et déterminés à rétablir l’intégrité de la mémoire de votre fils et faire toute la lumière sur son décès. Par cette posture, vous avez gagné l’admiration de la majorité des Gabonais.
Certains d’entre nous se demanderont où trouvez-vous la force de vous avancer vers cet objectif. Mais moi je puis avec votre permission, me permettre d’avancer que cette force, vous la puisez dans votre culture.
Le sage dit: «l'éducation est la boussole de la vie!», et l’éducation que vous avez inculqué à votre fils en a fait un être indépendant. En choisissant de vivre de son commerce, de gagner son pain à la sueur de son front de manière honnête et décente, votre fils décida de vivre à contre-courant de la plupart de ses contemporains qui malheureusement préfèrent la dépendance à la dignité. Son rêve était certainement de vivre simplement en subvenant aux besoins des siens dans la tranquillité. Mais le choc des images prises de ce que les policiers ont fait subir à votre fils, eux qui n’ont aucune éducation, reste figé dans nos esprits et nous démontre que ceux qui se croient grands et immenses, parce que parés d’un uniforme qui leur donne droit de force, doivent être ramenés à la raison par ceux qu’ils croient minuscules, engoncés dans nos petites vies de qui commerçant, qui enseignant etc.
Mais la réalité de vos témoignages nous est accessible. Nous saisissons votre propos et votre détermination; dans vos intonations, votre débit verbal, votre posture tranquille, qui nous transmettent une puissance et une force de conviction extraordinaire. Vos témoignages représentent des documents clés de l’évolution du Gabon. Celle qui voit des citoyens comme vous, rejeter avec force toute idée de fausseté et de mensonge, pour que seule la vérité triomphe, quelles qu’en soient les conséquences. L'exigence de transparence s'impose à tous.
Chers parents, je me fais le porte-voix de beaucoup d’autres quand je vous affirme que nous partageons votre douleur en ce moment de deuil et tenons à ce que vous sachiez que nous sommes de tout cœur avec vous.

While the news of the moment is dominated by the dangers of violent barbarism by groups claiming to be Islamists in Africa and elsewhere, such as Boko-Haram near us in Nigeria and Cameroon. While Mali is still under threat from violent Islamists; the time is rather poorly chosen to get closer and make friends in this movement that dangerously continues to gain ground and wreak havoc wherever it is anchored.
But what are we talking about? You may be wondering; but of the recent news revealed by the Western press once again (because in Gabon lips are sealed), the issuance of a coin worth 1000 CFA francs, whose front and back show the Akhmad Kadyrov mosque, the largest in Europe.
This mosque located in Grozny, the capital of the Russian Caucasus republic of Chechnya, can accommodate up to 10,000 worshipers. It is named after Akhmad Kadyrov, a former mufti and pro-Russian Chechen president killed in a bombing in May 2004.
The legitimate question that the Gabonese people must ask, is to know why this man and this mosque deserve to be honored by our country, by the minting of memorial coin in our currency; when we know that no Gabonese person, outside the Bongos, appears on any bank note or any coin? Dear readers, this is serious! Why commemorate a building that Chechen rebels promise to destroy as having been built by Moscow in memory of a traitor leader, and position ourselves as potential enemy of the rebels in a conflict that does not concern us?
Here is the kind of action that reveals the disturbing objective of establishing a new religious order in Gabon, with the risk of dangerously getting closer to the tragic experiences that Islamism is being held responsible for in Mali, Nigeria and Cameroon, to cite examples close to home. We strongly feel that Ali Bongo is trying to place Gabon in the center of the Islamic world; something many Gabonese would prefer to stay away from, not by religious intolerance, but simply because preferring a secular environment instead of an ecumenism too present in the public sphere and likely to cause catastrophic blunders. Ali Bongo is preparing Gabon for a dangerous contagion.
The time has come for the Gabonese people to be vigilant and to say no to this approach!

Alors que l’actualité du moment est dominée par les dangers de la barbarie violente de groupes se réclamant islamistes en Afrique et ailleurs, tels que Boko-Haram près ne nous au Nigeria et au Cameroun. Alors que le Mali est toujours sous la menace violentes des islamistes; le moment est plutôt mal choisi pour s’en rapprocher et se faire des amis dans ce mouvement qui continue dangereusement de gagner du terrain et de semer la désolation partout où il s’est ancré.
Mais de quoi parlons-nous ? Vous demandez vous ; mais de la nouvelle récente, révélée par la presse occidentale encore une fois (car au Gabon c’est motus et bouche cousue), de la frappe d’une pièce monétaire valant 1000 francs CFA, ayant pour image sur son recto et son verso, la mosquée Akhmad Kadyrov, la plus grande mosquée d'Europe.
Cette mosquée située à Grozny, la capitale de la république du Caucase russe de Tchétchénie, peut accueillir jusqu'à 10000 fidèles. Elle porte le nom d'Akhmad Kadyrov, un ancien mufti et président tchétchène pro-Russe tué dans un attentat en mai 2004.
La légitime question que devrons se poser les Gabonais, est celle de savoir pourquoi cet homme et cette mosquée méritent-ils d’être honorés par notre pays, d’une frappe commémorative sur notre devise ; quand on sait qu’aucun Gabonais en dehors des Bongo, n’apparait sur aucun billet de banque, ni aucune pièce de monnaie ? Chers lecteurs, c’est grave ! Pourquoi aller commémorer un édifice que les rebelles tchéchènes promettent de détruire car ayant été construit par Moscou à la mémoire d’un leader traitre, et se positionner en ennemi potentiel de ces rebelles, dans un conflit qui ne nous regarde pas?
Voici le genre d’action qui nous révèle les inquiétantes visées d'instauration d'un ordre religieux nouveau au Gabon, avec les risques de nous rapprocher dangereusement des expériences tragiques dont l'islamisme est tenu pour responsable, au Mali, au Nigeria et au Cameroun, pour ne citer que des exemples proches de chez nous. On a fermement l’impression qu’Ali Bongo essaie de placer le Gabon au centre du monde islamique, chose dont bien de Gabonais s’en passeraient, non pas par intolérance religieuse, mais simplement parce que préférant la laïcité à un œcuménisme trop présent dans la sphère publique et susceptible d’occasionner des dérapages catastrophiques. Ali Bongo est en train de préparer le Gabon à une dangereuse contagion.
Le moment est venu pour les Gabonais de se montrer vigilant et de dire non à cette façon de faire !

THE STRANGE RESULTS OF A BIZARRE INVESTIGATION LACKING CREDIBILITY. DES RESULTATS BIZARRES D’UNE ENQUÊTE BIZARRE DÉPOURVUE DE CRÉDIBILITÉ

The AGP, the government agency that specializes in propaganda, has just released a study supposedly done by the Department of Geography at the University of Libreville, which concludes that 58% of Gabonese are favorable to the granting of citizenship to a foreigner born in Gabon.
This study is simply to be rejected, not because we are xenophobic and do not accept the findings, which is absurd; but because the survey methodology, including its sampling, is frankly unsatisfactory. AGP says that these findings are derived from a sample of 10 people with no details about their geographical, demographic or social distribution, demonstrating that these 10 persons are representative of all the Gabonese population.
This is the kind of pseudo-research that undermines the Gabonese university, because how to take seriously an institution of higher education that publishes such bullshit! Any opinion poll must first establish a scientific methodology so the findings of the study would be representative of the population studied. A survey is only scientifically valid, if the sample meets pre-established scientific standards. As it is impossible to question the entire population, researchers use a representative sample of that population. Statistical inference is then used to deduce the quantitative characteristics of the entire population from the study sample. The sample selection is fundamental because the sample chosen will be meaningful only if it is directly related to the entire population. For example, if the population is 40% men and 60% women, has 30% of young people between 20-30 years old, etc., the investigator in charge of the study say would select about 1,000 people including 400 men, 600 women and 300 of them will be aged between 25-30 years old, etc. That's for demographics, then there must be an alignment based on the geographical distribution of those surveyed and the distribution of educational level and type of employment etc.
Consideration must also be given to the fact that any survey has a margin of error to be taken into account statistically. The larger the sample, the more the error is minimal. If 1,000 people are questioned and one answers dishonestly, the error is only 0.1%, which is negligible. If 30 people respond ridiculously, the error will still be minimal at 3%. But if one asks only 10 people and that one person provides fanciful answers, it is a 10% error that would exist statistically.
Dear readers, any such investigation should have strong and clear criteria. The survey presented by the AGP does not meet these criteria and that is unfortunately just crap. One should not play to improvise this kind of social inquiry. The Gabonese university is defiled by this article.
It is to wonder who validates this kind of nonsense.

Voici le genre de pseudo-recherche qui décrédibilise l’université Gabonaise, car comment concevoir qu’une institution sérieuse d’enseignement supérieur puisse publier des conneries pareilles ! Tout sondage d’opinion doit établir au préalable une méthodologie scientifique permettant aux conclusions de ladite étude d’être représentatives de la population étudiée. Un sondage n’est valable scientifiquement, que si son échantillonnage répond à des normes scientifiques préétablies. Comme il est impossible de questionner l’ensemble d’une population, les chercheurs ont donc recours à un échantillon représentatif de cette population. Une inférence statistique est alors utilisée pour déduire les caractéristiques quantitatives de toute la population à partir de l’étude de cet échantillon. Le choix de l’échantillon est donc fondamental, car l’échantillon choisi n’aura de sens que s’il se rapporte directement à toute la population. Par exemple, s’il y a dans la population 40% d’hommes et 60% de femmes, 30% de jeunes de 20 à 30 ans, etc., l’enquêteur chargé de l’étude sélectionnerait environ disons 1000 personnes dont 400 hommes, 600 femmes et 300 d’entre elles qui seront âgées de 25 à 30 ans, etc. Ça c’est pour la démographie, ensuite il faudra voir la répartition géographique des gens interrogés et la distribution du niveau d’étude et du type d’emploi etc.
Il faut aussi considérer que tout sondage a une marge d’erreur qui doit être prise en compte statistiquement. Plus l’échantillon est grand, plus l’erreur est minimale. Si on interroge 1000 personnes et qu’une d’elle réponde de manière malhonnête, l’erreur n’est que de 0.1%, qui est négligeable. Si 30 personnes répondent de manière peu sérieuse, l’erreur sera toujours minimale de 3%. Mais si on interroge seulement 10 personnes et qu’une de ces personnes vous donne des réponses fantaisistes, c’est 10% d’erreur que vous aurez statistiquement.
Chers lecteurs, toute enquête de ce type doit avoir des critères qui doivent être solides et clairs. L’enquête présentée par l’AGP ne répond pas à ces critères et n’est malheureusement que du bricolage. On ne s'amuse pas à improviser ce genre d'enquête sociale. L'université gabonaise est souillée par cet article.
C’est à se demander qui valide ce genre de bêtises ?

The elephant is threatened with extinction in Gabon, we are told, and it is a protected species receiving the full attention of the most important nature conservation organizations in the world. But beware, the elephant under threat in Gabon is the forest and savannah gray elephant gray; but there is in Gabon, another kind of elephant with sparkling health. This elephant has never been so present and robust: it is the white elephant! This elephant is not about to disappear as long as the Bongos hold power. This elephant seems to be their symbol, their totem!
In Libreville, on the waterfront of the Sainte Marie Valley, stands an imposing white elephant in all its splendor (see above photo). The authorities are proud of it and exhibit it as a symbol of the vitality of Gabon. This white elephant of Gabon, big and majestic in the heart of the capital Libreville, is not an endangered species; instead it has brothers, sisters and cousins all over the territory; all in top form and multiplying rapidly.
Some of us have to do our mea culpa in front of this white elephant, because we did not want it at the beginning. We had told the authorities that this type of white elephant would prove too expensive to the taxpayer; that the country had more immediate and important challenges. This prestigious elephant was not to be favored compared to schools or health care. But we clearly lacked imagination and vision, because what are universities or hospitals and schools worth when one looks at this beautiful white elephant today in such resplendent beauty?
We must now admit that the voices, including ours, which were raised to denounce the extent of the expenditure incurred for this white elephant, in a country often without clean water, schools and a quality health care network, were motivated by jealousy and backbiting, because we should have let Ali Bongo and his team go ahead, as they asked us to do so in song. Today the results are here, the white elephant is bubbly of good health and tourists flock to admire this very rare species in other countries but growing and proliferating in Gabon.
We must have the honesty to recognize the merit of Ali Bongo as a catalyst for healthy white elephants in Gabon and for that we congratulate him!

L’éléphant est menacé de disparition au Gabon, nous dit-on, c’est une espèce protégée recevant toute l’attention des organisations de conservation de la nature les plus importantes du monde. Mais attention, l’éléphant sous la menace au Gabon est l’éléphant gris de forêt et de savane ; mais il y a au Gabon, un autre type d’éléphant qui pétille de santé. Jamais cet éléphant n’a été aussi présent et robuste : c’est l’éléphant blanc ! Cet éléphant n’est pas près de disparaitre tant que les Bongo seront au pouvoir. Cet éléphant semble être leur symbole, leur totem !
A Libreville, sur le front de mer de la Vallée Sainte Marie, se dresse un imposant éléphant blanc dans toute sa splendeur (voir la photo ci-dessus). Les autorités en son fier et l’exhibe comme le symbole de la vitalité du Gabon. Certains d’entre nous devrons faire notre mea culpa devant cet éléphant blanc, car nous n’en voulions pas au départ. Nous avions dit aux autorités que ce type d’éléphant blanc couterait utilement trop cher au contribuable, que le pays avait des défis plus immédiats et importants à relever. Que cet éléphant de prestige n’était pas à privilégier par rapport à l’école ou à la santé. Mais nous manquions visiblement d’imagination et de vision, car quand on regarde ce bel éléphant blanc aujourd’hui, que valent des universités ou des hôpitaux et écoles devant tant de resplendissante beauté ?
Nous devons aujourd’hui avouer que les voix, dont la nôtre, qui s’étaient élevées pour dénoncer l'ampleur des dépenses consenties pour cet éléphant blanc, dans un pays souvent sans eau potable, d'établissements scolaires et d'un réseau de santé de qualité, étaient motivées par la jalousie et la médisance, car nous aurions dû laisser Ali Bongo et son équipe avancer, comme ils nous le chantaient. Aujourd’hui les résultats sont là, l’éléphant blanc est pétillant de santé et les touristes accourent admirer cette espèce très rare dans les autres pays mais en pleine prolifération au Gabon.
Nous devons avoir l’honnêteté de reconnaitre le mérite d’Ali Bongo comme catalyseur de la bonne santé des éléphants blancs au Gabon et pour cela, nous l’en félicitons!

Guy Rossatanga-Rignault is a very important person in Gabon, in the sense that he is a "great" man who has an important function in the Ali Bongo’s regime. He is Assistant Secretary General of the Presidency. We have said it, he is not just anyone.
Guy Rossatanga-Rignault is also a writer in his spare time. The quality of his work is becoming increasingly questionable, hence this post! He has indeed recently launched the publication in Libreville of his new book, whose title is “Les Grandes Dates du Gabon” (The Great Dates of Gabon). With such a title, one would have thought that this book would be a chronological and honest ephemeris of major events that have marked the history of Gabon; but that was too much to ask the Deputy General Secretary of the Presidency. This book turns out to be an alibi for Guy Rossatanga-Rignault to rewrite the history of Gabon, rearranging it for the benefit of the Bongos whom Rossatanga serves. We leave the scientific domain to enter fully into propaganda, and this is unacceptable!
Guy Rossatanga-Rignault seems to have already forgotten that intellectuals have responsibilities in the public life of societies, because they exert a moral influence on the management of public affairs. For this reason, they should strive to reveal the truth about significant issues to the people. An intellectual is someone who chooses to steer the nation towards the truth. It is therefore the responsibility of intellectuals to speak the truth and expose the lies; as Foucault said: "speak truth to power." So, when an intellectual works for the dictatorship, what is left of the intellectual?
Guy Rossatanga-Rignault made his choice, which is to ignore the major moral crimes of the regime he serves; which in our view establishes his moral culpability as a so-called "intellectual". He has made like many others, the choice of material and personal comfort, instead of the intellectual mission to educate and instruct. That is his choice. But can we accept his revisionism? No, not at all. Today, Guy Rossatanga-Rignault is only a charlatan who has agreed to submit to the powers that be, and to justify this, he feels obliged to plead mitigating circumstances and rewrite history to enhancee the reputation of the dictatorship system he serves.
In principle, the intellectual is a person who plays in society, a particular role that cannot be reduced to that of a professional stooge who lies to the people by serving them a rotten "history"! The true intellectual normally has the capacity to formulate a thought or judgment that enlightens people. When the intellectual is a con man, as has unfortunately Guy Rossatanga-Rignault has become, we are right in the middle of quackery.
It is the intellectuals who write history. In the case of Guy-Rossatanga Rignault, one can question the veracity of the history he wrote. We can say here that Guy Rossatanga-Rignault’s brain seems to work only minimally these days, content to publish books aimed at manufacturing the consent of the Gabonese people for the dictatorship he serves. He is just the servant of the Bongo’s regime, determined to maintain his social position and privileges.

Guy Rossatanga-Rignault est un personnage très important au Gabon, dans le sens que c’est un « grand » monsieur qui occupe une importante fonction dans le régime d’Ali Bongo. Il est Secrétaire Général Adjoint de la Présidence. Nous vous l’avons dit, ce n’est pas n’importe qui.
Guy Rossatanga-Rignault est aussi un auteur dans ses moments perdus. La qualité de ses ouvrages est de de plus en plus douteuse, d’où ce billet ! Il vient en effet de vernir son nouvel ouvrage à Libreville, dont le titre est « Les Grandes Dates du Gabon ». Avec un tel titre, on aurait pensé que ce livre soit une éphéméride chronologique et honnête des grands évènements ayant jalonné l’histoire du Gabon ; mais c’était trop demander au Secrétaire General Adjoint de la Présidence. Ce livre se révèle n’être qu’une production alibi à Guy Rossatanga-Rignault, pour réécrire l’histoire du Gabon en la réarrangeant au profit des Bongo, que sert Rossatanga. Nous sortons du travail scientifique pour entrer de plein pied dans la propagande, et cela est inacceptable !
Guy Rossatanga-Rignault semble avoir déjà oublié que les intellectuels ont des responsabilités dans la vie publique des sociétés, parce qu'ils exercent une influence morale sur la gestion de la cité. Pour cette raison, ils doivent s'efforcer de révéler la vérité sur des sujets significatifs à un peuple. Un intellectuel est quelqu’un qui fait le choix d’orienter la nation vers la vérité. Il est donc de la responsabilité des intellectuels de dire la vérité et d'exposer les mensonges; comme avait dit Foucault, « dire la vérité au pouvoir ». Alors, quand l’intellectuelle travaille pour la dictature, que reste-t-il de l’intellectuel?
Guy Rossatanga-Rignault a fait son choix, qui est celui d’ignorer les majeurs crimes moraux du régime qu’il sert ; ce qui établit à nos yeux sa culpabilité morale en tant que soit disant « intellectuel ». Il a fait comme bien d’autres, le choix de l’aisance matérielle et du confort personnel, à la mission intellectuel d’éduquer et d’instruire. C’est son choix. Mais peut-on accepter son révisionnisme ? Non, pas du tout. Aujourd’hui, Guy Rossatanga-Rignault n’est plus qu’un charlatan ayant accepté de se soumettre au pouvoir en place, et pour se justifier il se croit obligé de plaider les circonstances atténuantes et réécrire l’histoire pour redorer le blason dictatorial du régime qu’il sert.
En principe, l'intellectuel est un individu qui joue, au sein de la société, un rôle particulier qui ne saurait être réduit à celui d'un larbin professionnel qui ment au peuple en leur servant une « histoire » faisandée! Le véritable intellectuel est normalement doté de la capacité de formuler une pensée ou un jugement qui éclaire les gens. Quand l’intellectuel est un truand de la pensée, comme l’est malheureusement devenu Guy Rossatanga-Rignault, on est en plein charlatanisme.
Ce sont les intellectuels qui écrivent l'histoire. Dans le cas de Guy Rossatanga-Rignault, on peut s'interroger sur la véracité de l’histoire qu’il écrit. Nous pouvons dire ici que le cerveau de Guy Rossatanga-Rignault semble ne fonctionner qu’à minima aujourd’hui, se contentant de publier des ouvrages allant dans le sens de fabriquer le consentement des Gabonais pour la dictature qu’il sert. Il n’est plus qu’un serviteur du régime Bongo, résolu à conserver sa position sociale et ses privilèges.

While remaining sensitive to the scheduling requirements and unforeseen timing of everyone, the president of the Front of the Opposition for Change puts the highest importance to the respect of the common timetable and the unity of the Front.
He also reminds all that the decisions affecting the Front can only be derived from scheduled meetings, organized and held by the consensus rules that the Front itself has established, particularly in the presence of the majority of its members.
