He had everything to succeed; quality education due to an extraordinary intelligence; undeniable skills of leader of men; and above all he was the ideal man at the right moment to rid Gabon of the Bongos and propel and drive the country towards democracy and true pluralism.
Unfortunately, instead of fighting to achieve his potential and his political destiny, Paul Mba Abessole, preferred the role entrusted to him by Omar Bongo and françafrique; that of Omar Bongo's lackey, whose role would be to channel the wrath of the Gabonese people in order to better control it and guarantee Omar Bongo’s eternity in power.
After demonstrating bravery in the early 1990s, Paul Mba Abessole became shy and politically stuttering, failing to call the Gabonese people to resist the Bongos. He agreed to play until the end the role of jester to a president who came to power almost by chance, by the sole will of Jacques Foccard. Paul Mba Abessole shattered his personal honor and also as a politician.
Here is a gentleman who had everything to end up in the Gabonese political firmament, thanks to a glorious destiny, who, for having accepted what was easy, will occupy only a so deserved place, in the dustbins of history.

Il avait pourtant tout pour réussir ; une éducation de qualité due à une intelligence hors du commun ; des aptitudes indéniables de meneur d’hommes ; et surtout il était l’homme idéal au moment propice pour débarrasser le Gabon des Bongo et propulser et impulser le pays vers la démocratie et le pluralisme véritable.
Malheureusement, au lieu de lutter afin d’arriver à réaliser son potentiel et son destin politique, Paul Mba Abessole, préféra le rôle qui lui confia Omar Bongo et la françafrique ; celui de supplétif d’Omar Bongo dont le rôle serait de canaliser la colère des Gabonais pour mieux la contrôler et garantir à Omar Bongo l’éternité au pouvoir.
Après avoir démontré des capacités de bravoure au début des années 90, Paul Mba Abessole devint timide et politiquement bègue, ne parvenant plus à appeler les Gabonais à résister aux Bongo. Il accepta de jouer jusqu’au bout le rôle de falot d’un Président arrivé au pouvoir presque par hasard, par la seule volonté de Jacques Foccard. Paul Mba Abessole y laissa son honneur personnel et aussi en tant qu’homme politique.
Voici un Monsieur qui avait tout pour finir au firmament politique Gabonais, grâce a un destin glorieux, qui, pour avoir accepté la facilité, n’occupera qu’un place si méritée dans les poubelles de l’histoire.
